I’ve mostly completed this project, but I’m now discovering that my steppers are running extremely hot; however the drivers are completely cool to the touch (no heatsinks). I already have the vref on the TMC2100s at about 0.5, but it hasn’t really helped. Like Matt, I opted to 3D print my scara bot, so I’m concerned about the heat warping the PLA with time.

If you 3D printed your parts, have you seen issues with excessive stepper heat warping your parts?

If you’re running TMC2100 drivers, are your steppers cool to the touch (or lukewarm at best) after a hour or so running? Maybe I just have a wiring issue…

I also have some TMC2209s that I just ordered, so I may try switching to them. They have a CoolStep mode that you can enable, which should reduce stepper heat.
